What a founding place gives you

0% commission until 30 November 2026

You keep your full service price. After that date the standard rate is 10%.

The Verified badge

Identity-checked, insured, charter-signed. Clients can see the difference before they book.

We build your profile with you

You send your work; we write, structure and publish it. Full pricing control, and no platform-wide discounts, ever.

What verification means

  • A government-ID check through Stripe Identity — passport or UK driving licence.
  • £1m public liability cover (the standard freelance limit — see below), evidenced and expiry-tracked.
  • The Rootli Professional Charter, signed before you go live.

It is deliberately harder than signing up to booking software. That is what makes the badge worth carrying.

How the money works

  • Clients pay a 50% deposit at booking. Stripe holds it until the appointment completes, then it lands in your own bank account.
  • Clients pay a £2.50 secure-service fee on top of your price — never deducted from you.
  • You set every price, including travel, and keep your own client relationships.
What it costs and how to get it

About the insurance requirement

£1m public liability is the standard entry-level limit for freelance and mobile hair work in the UK — not a premium policy. It typically costs from around £5 a month, usually under £80 a year — less than one appointment — and counts as a business expense at tax time. Most policies are issued the same day you apply for one.

Specialists commonly arrange cover through routes such as Simply Business, Salon Gold, Protectivity or Insync. Rootli takes no commission or referral fee from any insurer — these are simply the routes specialists commonly use.

You do not need a policy to apply. Cover only has to be in place before your profile goes live — if you don't have it yet, apply now and arrange it during your onboarding call.

Being straight with you

  • Everyone starts at zero reviews. We do not write or seed reviews — ever.
  • Notifications are email, calendar invites and in-app alerts. We do not send text messages.
  • We are new. Founding specialists are joining before the client side is busy — which is precisely why the founding terms exist.

What happens next

  1. 1You send this short application — two minutes, no account needed.
  2. 2We review your work and reply within two working days.
  3. 3A ten-minute call at the time you choose, so you can ask us anything.

Straight answers

What does it actually cost me?

Nothing to join, and 0% commission on your service price until 30 November 2026. After that the standard rate is 10%. Clients pay a £2.50 secure-service fee on top of your price — it never comes out of your earnings.

I'm already fully booked. Why would I join?

Because founding places are about who a client finds when they search for a verified specialist in London — and because deposits, calendar invites and cancellation terms are handled for you. You keep full control of your prices, your hours and your client list.

How do deposits work?

Clients pay a 50% deposit at booking. Stripe holds it and it reaches your own bank account after the appointment completes. If a client cancels inside 48 hours, the deposit is yours.

Do I need insurance?

Not to apply. £1m public liability is the standard entry-level limit for freelance and mobile hair work — from around £5 a month, typically under £80 a year, and usually issued the same day. It only has to be in place before your profile goes live. See the insurance section above for the routes specialists commonly use.

Is this just another Booksy?

No. Booking software sells you a calendar. Rootli is a curated, verified directory for Afro and textured hair specifically — vetted entry, no platform-wide discounting, and no race to the bottom on price.
